State Team News

The QDU extends its warmest congratulations to the Queensland Schools Debating Team on its excellent performance at the 2009 National Schools Debating Championships. The team’s performance throughout the tournament was outstanding and reinforced Queensland’s reputation as a commanding presence in the Australian debating community.

Queensland were minor premiers of the tournament, defeating every State during the course of the preliminary rounds, a feat that had not been accomplished since 2003. Unfortunately the team was narrowly defeated in the preliminary final against the Australian Capital Territory, putting the team in third place overall behind the eventual victors (NSW) and the runners up (ACT). This was an outstanding result, reaffirming Queensland’s position at the forefront of schools debating in Australia.

We would also like to particularly congratulate Ms Lucy Wark (Captain of the Queensland Team) for her fabulous achievement in being named the Captain of the Australian Schools Debating Team. We are certain that Lucy will do her state and country proud when she leads the Australian team at the World Schools Debating Championships in Qatar early next year.
